Publishing Ethics

Publication ethics

Ethical publishing standards exist to ensure the high quality of scientific publications, public trust in scientific discoveries, and recognition of people for their work and thought.

The scientific journal "Digital Economy" follows the "White Paper of the Council of Scientific Editors on the observance of the principles of the integrity of publications in scientific journals, updated version 2012" (CSE’s White Paper on Promotion Integrity in Scientific Journal Publications, 2012 Update) and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors on Publication Ethics

Article rating

All manuscripts are peer-reviewed and must meet standards of academic excellence. If accepted through an editor, the submissions will be reviewed by reviewers, whose identities will remain anonymous to the authors.

Our Research Integrity team will from time to time seek advice that goes beyond the standard peer review, for example on materials with serious ethical, safety implications. We may consult with experts and the academic editor before deciding on appropriate action, including, but not limited to, engaging reviewers with particular expertise, evaluation by additional editors, and declining further consideration of the application.

Plagiarism

Authors may not use words, numbers, or ideas from other researchers or people without attribution. All sources should be cited where they are used, and reuse of language should be limited and should be identified or cited in the text.

Manuscripts that can be found to be plagiarized manuscripts of other authors, whether published or unpublished, will be rejected and the authors may be subject to additional sanctions. Any published articles may also need to be corrected or retracted.

Duplication of submission and redundant publication

The journal of Digital Economy Research considers only original content, that is, articles that have not been published before, including in a language other than English. Articles based on content previously published only on the preprint server, institutional repository, or dissertation will be considered.

Manuscripts submitted to this journal should not be submitted elsewhere while they are under review and must be withdrawn before being submitted elsewhere. Authors whose papers were submitted at the same time elsewhere may be subject to sanctions.

If authors have used their own previously published work or work currently under review as the basis for a submitted manuscript, they should cite previous articles and indicate how their submitted manuscript differs from their previous work. Reuse of the author's own words outside methods should be attributed or cited in the text. Reuse of own drawings or substantial amounts of wording may require permission from the copyright owner, and authors are responsible for obtaining it.

The journal of Digital Economy Research will consider extended versions of papers published at conferences, provided that this is indicated in the cover letter, the previous version is clearly cited and discussed, there is significant new content, and all necessary permissions have been obtained.

Re-publication, improper division of research results into more than one article may result in rejection or request for merger of submitted manuscripts, as well as correction of published articles. Republishing the same or very similar article may result in retraction of the later article and the authors may be subject to sanctions.

Citation Manipulation

Authors whose submitted manuscripts contain citations whose primary purpose is to increase the number of citations to that author's work or to articles published in a particular journal may be subject to sanctions.

Editors and reviewers should not ask authors to include citations just to increase citation of their work or that of a collaborator in the journal or other journal with which they are affiliated.

Manufacturing and falsification

Authors of submitted manuscripts or published articles found to have fabricated or falsified results, including image manipulation, may be subject to sanctions and published articles may be retracted.

Authorship and thanks

All listed authors must make a significant scientific contribution to the study of the manuscript, confirm its claims and agree to be the author. It is important to list all those who have made significant scientific contributions. Submitting authors must provide an ORCID, and we encourage all authors to provide one. Changes in authorship must be announced in this journal and agreed with all authors. The author can change his name in the published article (see below).

Anyone who has contributed to the research or preparation of the manuscript, but is not the author, should be credited with their permission.

Conflict of interests

Confidential information or ideas obtained as a result of peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal purposes. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
